Nepal lost a good chance to win the match against Thailand. Despite stopping Thailand by a small score in the triangular Women's Twenty20 series on Tuesday, Nepal suffered a 5-run defeat.
Thailand won the toss and scored 106 runs after losing 6 wickets in 20 overs at the Trivi Cricket Ground in Kirtipur. In response, Nepal lost 8 wickets and scored only 101 runs. After Manisha Upadhyay bowled sensationally in her first over, Nepal controlled Thailand's batting. In the seventh over of the match, she dismissed the opener Offisara Suwanchonrathi lbw for 17 runs on her first ball. Three balls later, she also bowled Natakan Chantham for an lbw.
In the last ball of the same over, Manisha ran out skipper Naruimol Chaiwai for a wicket on a direct hit. Manisha did not stop there. Manisha, who made her 'debut' in the Women's Twenty20 international from this series, dismissed Thailand's leading batsman Nanapat Koncharoinkai for 19 runs. Koncharoinkai, who scored half-centuries against Nepal and Netherlands in the first two matches of the series, played 23 balls and hit 2 fours.
After Manisha's excellent performance, Thailand reached 56-6 in 13 overs. However, Thipatacha Puthavong and Chanida Suthirueng put on an unbeaten partnership of 50 runs in 43 balls for the seventh wicket. Puthavong scored 25 with 1 four off 31 balls and Suthirueng scored 27 runs off 28 balls with 1 four and remained unbeaten.
Nepal allowed Rachna to 'debut'. Rachna, who made a good impression in the recently concluded ICC U-19 World Cup in Malaysia, was brought in as Kavita Kunwar's replacement. Rachna was included in the team after Kavita pulled out of the tournament with a back injury in the second match of the series. Rachna took 1 wicket for 16 runs in 4 overs.
