Mukesh Bista of Sudurpaschim University and Bina Tharu of Tribhuvan University have won gold medals in 100 meters race under the second University Sports Festival. Mukesh was the winner in men and without women.

Mukesh completed the set distance in 11.22 seconds at Pokhara Stadium. Vikas Kumar Shah of Kathmandu University was second in 11.65 seconds and Trivika Prakash Joshi was third in 11.84 seconds. Bina took 14.40 seconds to cover the prescribed distance. Akriti Chaudhary of Triviki was second in 14.90 seconds and Pramila Khadka of Purvanchal University was third in 15.00 seconds.

Mukesh also won another gold in the men's long jump of the competition organized by the National Sports Council (Rakhep). He jumped 6.70 meters. Far West's Khemraj Joshi (5.82 m) came second and TU's Divas Regmi (5.53 m) came third.

Trivika Sushilkumar Baniyan became the first in the men's 400 meters race of the competition which is being co-organised by Gandaki University and coordinated by the University Grants Commission. He covered the prescribed distance in 53.91 seconds. Trivika's Divas Regmi (55.56 seconds) was second and Sudurpaschim's Deepakraj Bhat (56.29 seconds) was third.

Himali Shahi of Madhesh Pradesh University won the gold in the women's category. She took 1 minute 10.46 seconds to complete the prescribed distance. TU's Rajyalakshmi Rawal (1 minute 10.48 seconds) won the silver and Gandaki's Kriti Giri (1 minute 15.30 seconds) won the bronze.

On the first day of athletics, Sudurpaschim and Trivi have won 2 golds each. Madhesh province has won 1 gold. The finals of the remaining 5 events of athletics including 10 events will be held on Thursday.

Member Secretary of National Sports Council, Tanklal Ghising, has said that university sports competition has been started with the aim of developing sports at a level level. Inaugurating the second university sports in Pokhara, Ghising informed that legal arrangements have been made to survive by playing.

Co-organizer Gandaki University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ganeshman Gurung presided over the program by Council member and program coordinator Dr. Madhusudan Subedi gave a welcome speech.   

Teams from Kathmandu, Purvanchal, Tribhuvan, Pokhara, Gandaki, Lambini, Sudurpaschim, Agriculture and Forestry and Purvanchal World Schools are participating in the competition till January 24. Meen Kumar Sharma, secretary of the competition and head of the competition department said that 19 gold medals are being competed for in volleyball, athletics, table tennis and badminton.
