The 'A' Division League champion Church Boys United Club has reached the finals of the 25th edition of the invitational Budhasubba Gold Cup Football by scoring a wide victory over the Bhutanese team.
Church Boys came close to the title after defeating Bhutan's RTC FC 7-0 in the first semi-final on Wednesday. Sameer Tamang and Armand Vidong scored hat-tricks in Church Boys' victory. Padam Bhattarai added a goal. Church Boys scored three goals in the first half and added four goals in the second half.
RTC, who played competitively for half of the first half at Dharan Stadium, wasted a golden opportunity to take the lead in the beginning. In the 19th minute of the game, Noida Yosel failed to score in one versus one. After that RTC could not create any opportunity and the title was out of the race. Samir scored a goal in the 21st minute of the game through Abayomi Fakunle's pass. Church Boys' Armand added a goal in the 27th minute to make the game 2-0. Armand directed the ball towards the post after Fakunle's pass. In the 29th minute, after Padam Bhattarai scored an attractive header from Armand's pass, the Church Boys were leading 3-0 in the first half.
In the second half, Armand of Habi Church Boys added a goal in the 50th minute against RTC. He scored an attractive header on Eric Bist's corner. Armand completed the hat-trick by scoring a ball provided by Sameer in the 52nd minute. In the 56th minute, Samir added a personal goal by making use of Eric's pass, and the church boys took a 6-0 lead. Sameer completed the hat trick in the 85th minute of the game. With this goal, Church Boys won 7-0. Man of the match was Samir Tamang of Church Boys. He was awarded 10,000. In the second semi-final on Thursday, former winners NRT and UKFC India will compete.
