The second university sports competition organized by the National Sports Council (Rakhep) will be held in Pokhara from Wednesday. Madhusudan Subedi, a member of Rakhep and coordinator of the organizing committee, said at a press conference held at Pokhara Stadium on Tuesday that all the preparations for the competition have been completed.
With the aim of bringing out the sports talent among the students under 28 years of age studying in the university and providing encouragement and inspiration to the players, Rakhep has started the university sports competition from last year.
Gandaki University co-organized and coordinated by the University Grants Commission, the competition will be held in 4 sports namely Athletics, Volleyball, Badminton and Table Tennis. 9 different universities will compete for 19 gold medals in the competition. Athletics will be played in 5-5 events for men/women. Badminton and table tennis will be played in men's/women's singles and doubles. Volleyball will be played only for men.
234 players from 9 universities are participating at the rate of 26 from each university. Participating universities are Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University, Purvanchal University, Pokhara University, Madhyapaschimanchal University, Lumbini Buddhist University, Sudurpaschim University, Agriculture and Forestry University and Gandaki University. All matches of the two-day tournament will be held at the Pokhara Stadium.
