Janakpur Knights has become Nepal Kabaddi League champions with an undefeated journey. Janakpur defeated Kathmandu Mavericks 45-41 in the final match of the first edition at the National Sports Council (Rakhep) Covered Hall on Friday.
Janakpur got five lakh and Kathmandu got two lakh along with the title. Janakpur beat Biratnagar Bandits in the first qualifier and made it to the finals. Kathmandu also eliminated Biratnagar in the second qualifier. In the
league stage, these two teams had tied 39-39 points. In the final which was so competitive, Kathmandu did not feel anything in terms of results in front of Janakpur.
Janakpur took a lead of 6 points in the first half. Janakpur scored 8 points from raid, 6 tackles, 4 points from two all-outs and 7 points from bonuses and extras. Kathmandu added 2 from raid, 6 from tackle and 11 from bonus and extra. The first half ended 25-19.
In the second half, captain Ghanshyam Rokkamagar brought Kathmandu back into the game with an excellent performance, but Kathmandu was alienated from the title as they could not handle it at the end. Kathmandu scored 7 points from raids, 5 from tackles, 2 from an all-out and 8 points from bonuses and extras. Janakpur could collect only 7 points from raids, 6 from tackles and 5 points from bonuses and extras.
Tanongsak Srihera of Janakpur became the west defender and Ghanshyam Rokkamar of Kathmandu became the raider.
