Kenyan runner Julius Mauriki has become the Itahari-8 km run champion. Mauriki completed the prescribed distance of 8 km open run organized by Hisan Sunsari Association of High Schools and Secondary Schools on Sunday in 24 minutes and 25 seconds.

Saroj Limbu, who was second, completed the set distance in 25 minutes and 31 seconds, while Ocean Rai completed the distance in 26 minutes and 5 seconds and finished third. 

For women, Indrakala Nemwang was first, Juhi Rai was second and Shakuntala Rai was third. Indrakala completed the prescribed distance in 31 minutes 3 seconds, Juhi in 32 minutes 35 seconds and Shakuntala in 33 minutes 31 seconds. The first, second and third place winners received cash prizes of 12,000, 10,000 and 8,000 rupees respectively.

More than 800 runners from different districts of Nepal, including some foreigners, competed in the 8 km run.
