Neeraj Tamang maintained his lead on the second day of the Surya Nepal Western Open Golf. He is leading by one stroke till Thursday in the fourth event under Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2024-25.
Neeraj carded a 1-under 68 and scored a par 69 at the Himalayan Golf Course overall to score 5-under 133. Bhuvan Kumar Rocca, who is one stroke behind him, has an overall score of 4 under 134. Bhuvan shot a 2-under 67 for the second day in a row.
Dhan Bahadur Thapa and Sanjay Lama, who made a score of even-par 138 overall, finished the 36-hole match in joint third place. Both Dhan and Sanjay scored 1 over 70. Jairam Shrestha and amateur Sundar Rai are joint fifth. They scored a total of 2 over 140. Jayaram ended the day's play with 2 over 71 and Sundar with 1 over 70 on Thursday.
Krishnaman Rajabahak, Bishnu Prasad Sharma and Rame Magar are joint seventh with a total of 4 over 142. Krishnaman scored 1-under 68, Vishnu 2-over 71 and Ramey 4-over 73. Overall, Ravi Khadka is in tenth place with a score of 5 over 143. He made a score card of 1 under 68.
Neeraj, who has been consistently leading, shot 1-under 33 on the front nine, birdied the fourth and eighth holes and missed a shot on the seventh hole. After this, he hit a birdie on the 10th hole but faced a triple bogey on the par 13 hole. After this, he birdied the 17th and 18th holes and completed the back nine even-par 35.
Bhuvan saved par in the first 9 holes and finished the front nine at even-par 34. He birdied the 11th hole but double bogeyed the 14th hole. After this, he shot three consecutive birdies from the 15th to the 17th hole and finished the back nine at 2 under 33.
On the amateur side, Sundar is ahead by 6 strokes behind Suman Periyar. Sundar tops overall with a score of 2 over 140. Suman, who played 1-under 68, rose to second place with an overall score of 8-over 146.
At the end of 36 holes, a total of 27 golfers, 21 pros and 6 amateurs, scored 15 over 153 and made the cut. On the pro side, Toranvikram Shahi, Pradeep Kumar Lama, Surya Prasad Sharma, Bhu Bahadur Gurung, Balabhadra Rai, Yuvraj Bhujel, Tank Bahadur Karki, Deepak Magar, Dinesh Prajapati, Dal Bahadur Lama and Kisan Kaliraj Sunar made the cut along with Nepal's number one Bhuvan Nagarkoti. On the amateur side, Suresh Tamang, Prajwal Gurung, Sansar BK and Jeevaram Gurung secured their spots in the last 18-hole match.
The winner will receive 1 lakh 50 thousand, second and third will receive 1 lakh and 72 thousand respectively. Golfers who finish in the top 21 will win cash prizes. The Pro-M event of the competition organized by Nepal Professional Golfers Association under the sponsorship of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd will be held on Saturday.
