Surya Nepal Western Open, the fourth tournament of the season under Surya Nepal Golf Tour, is starting on Wednesday in Pokhara. The 25th edition of the tournament is about to be held at the Himalayan Golf Course in Pokhara.
34 professional and 18 amateur golfers will compete in the three-day tournament of 54 holes. The attractive Himalayan Golf Course located on the banks of the Vijayapur River is considered to be a difficult course with a beautiful view of the Machhapuchhre Himal. Therefore, along with the competitive golfer, the challenge of the golf course will also be in the players. This course was also rated as one of the most exciting golf courses in the world by Golf Digest.
Organizer Nepal Professional Golfers Association has increased the total prize money from this edition to 8 lakh 82 thousand rupees. The winner will get Rs 150,000, the second runner-up will get Rs 1 lakh and the third runner-up will get Rs 72,000. Golfers who finish in the top 21 will win cash. In the tournament sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd, the cut will be applied at the end of 36 holes. The Pro-Am competition will be held on Saturday.
Defending champion Bhuvan Nagarkoti along with Neeraj Tamang, Dhan Thapa, Sanjay Lama and Jairam Shrestha are seen as the main contenders. Bhuvan, who won the title with a record score in the last edition, has not won any title this season. He will also have the challenge of winning his first title this season. Nepal's number one amateur golfer Sadbhava Acharya and Surya Nepal Central Open winner Rahul BK will not participate this time.
