Organizers Our Itahari Vetran Club has entered the semi-finals of the fifth edition of the International Invitational Itahari Vetran Gold Cup Football Tournament.
In the second quarter-final match held on Sunday at the ground of Janata Multi-purpose Campus located in Itahari-5, the host club secured a place in the semi-finals by winning 1-0 against Simra Veteran Club Bara. Surendra Tamang scored the decisive goal in a hard-fought victory for the hosts. In the 11th minute of the second half, former national player Tamang, who entered the field in place of Kamal Basnet, scored a goal in the 13th minute. Suman KC of our Itahari Vetran was declared the man of the match for the
game. Ex-national player Devnarayan Chaudhary gave him 2,500 rupees in cash and toffee. The winner Our Itahari Vetran will now compete in the semi-finals against the winner of the last quarterfinal match between Damak Lakhanpur Vetran Club and TY YC Vetran Biratnagar on Tuesday.
Rajarani Veteran Club Dhankuta and Burmick Namfing Veteran Sikkim India will compete in the third quarter-final on Monday, according to Nirmal Tamang, the chairman of the organizers. Organizers said that the winner of the competition, which will run until January 12th, will get Rs 111,000 in cash and the runner-up will get Rs 61,000.
