District Police Office Baglung has won the second Memorial Cup football tournament. Police lifted the title by defeating Sankalp Rehabilitation Center in a tiebreaker by 5/3 goals in the final held at Bangechour ground in Baglung on Saturday.
Police won Rs 1 lakh 22 thousand 222 in cash, trophy, medal and certificate for being the first in the competition in which 14 teams from Dhaulagiri region participated. The resolution to be the second one, the restoration center, settled for 66 thousand 666 rupees.
The match between Police and Sankalp, who played one goal each at the scheduled time, reached Tribaker. Sankalp's Manoj Gurung scored a goal in the first 2 minutes of the second half, but Sumit Shrestha of Police scored a goal in the 15th minute, and the match was tied. Even in the added time, both teams failed to score and the match reached a tiebreaker.
On Friday, Police defeated Gurans Guthi United 2-1 and Sankalp defeated Purple Haze in a tiebreaker for the final trip.
The game has been running for two years in memory of 8 former members of Baglung Ekta Club. Police's Vivek Gurung was declared the best player in the competition. Similarly, Dhirendra Shahi of Narayan Dal Gana and Joff Kuman of Adarsh Yuva Club were declared as the best scorers.
Jeevansingh Thakuri of police has been awarded as the best goalkeeper. Vishal Nepali of Sankalp was declared as the defender, Sandeep Tamang of Police as a midfielder and Mukundra Niure of Sankalp as a striker.
