Rammaya Budha from Jumla has won the title in the 50 km race of the 100 km Hong Kong Ultra Marathon. She won the marathon title by breaking the record of the Hong Kong Marathon.
Rammaya, who was born in Peregaon, Patarasi Rural Municipality-2, Jumla, took part in international level games for the first time and won the first place. She covered 100 kilometers in 5 hours 34 minutes 5 seconds. Ramamaya beat Japan's Yuri Oshizomi by 24 minutes and 7 seconds. Japan's Oshizomi finished second with a time of 5 hours 58 minutes 12 seconds. China's Yang Yan finished third with 6 hours 13 minutes 36 seconds.
Rajyalakshmi Rawal from Jumla won the seventh place in the marathon. 299 runners participated in Hong Kong Marathon.
Rammaya's victory in the Hong Kong Marathon has brought happiness to Jumla. This achievement of her who trained with the world famous runner Hari Bahadur Rokaya from Karnali Sports Club is considered as an inspiration in the field of trail running. According to Asia Pacific Adventure Athletics, Rammaya has introduced her extraordinary ability in the Hong Kong Marathon.
Saroj Shahi, president of Karnali Sports Club, informed that a new history has been written in Nepali sports with his victory.
'Rama Maya presented an example that sports talent that seems to be limited at the local level can achieve success on the international stage', President Shahi said, 'It is hoped that her victory and achievement will inspire young athletes.'
Runner Hari Bahadur Rokaya is happy after Rammay won the Hong Kong Marathon title. He responded that Rammaya's success is not only about winning a marathon but also a symbol of Nepali women's self-strength and ability.
