In the opening match on Saturday at the ground of Itahari-5, Janata Multipurpose Campus, Purveli Vetran got off to a winning start with a comfortable 2-0 victory over our Dharan Vetran Club.
Nagendramani Limbu and Premkumar Limbu scored one goal each for the Jhapali team. Nagendra scored the third goal of the game and Prem in the 21st minute.
The Dharan team, which fell behind 2-0 in the first half, failed to come back in the second half and lost. Nagendramani of the winning team was declared the man of the match. President of Sunsari District Sports Development Committee, Deepak Rai, presented him with cash of Rs 2,500 and a trophy.
The chairman of the organizing committee, Nirmal Tamang, informed that there will be a match between Simra Veteran Club Bara and the host Itahari Veteran Club on Sunday. Eight teams, including one Indian, are participating in the competition, which will last until January 12. According to the organizers, the winner of the competition will get Rs 111,000 in cash and the runner-up will get Rs 61,000.
