Nepal Kabaddi League (NKL) has introduced KB Sam as a major sponsor. Kabaddi franchise league is being held for the first time in Nepal from Friday under the auspices of Astronics Management. The competition will now be conducted under the name of KB Sam Nepal Kabaddi League.
6 teams from 6 cities will compete in round robin league and knockout stage till January 18th in Covered Hall at Dasharath Stadium. The major sponsorship agreement was signed by Amit Kumar Begani, Head of Astronics Management and Rupesh Thapa, Head of Marketing and Sales, KB Sam. Astronics Management has signed a three-year contract with KB Sam Aluminum Manufacturing Company for NKL. According to the
agreement, KB Sam will pay 75 lakh rupees annually to NKL. This amount is the fourth largest amount in Nepali sports history. It is the biggest sponsorship after Nepal Premier League (NPL) Cricket, Shahid Smarak A Division League and Surya Nepal Golf Tour.
Begani, head of Astronics Management, said, 'This is the first year, the year of investment. 25-30 thousand people play Kabaddi in Nepal. We have high level players. This shows that kabaddi has good potential in Nepal. For this, KB Sam has supported.'
Rupesh Thapa, Head of Marketing and Sales of KB Sam, said, 'KB Sam has expanded from East Mechi to West Mahakali. The investment in Kabaddi will also support the promotion of the company. Therefore, sponsoring in NKL will benefit both KB Sam and Kabaddi.
There are 66 domestic and 18 foreign players in NKL. There are 6 each from Thailand and Bangladesh, 3 each from Sri Lanka and Kenya. Each team has 14 players from home and abroad. Biratnagar Bandits, Janakpur Knights, Kathmandu Mavericks, Pokhara Lakers, Himalayan Raiders (Butwal) and Dhangadhi Wildcats are participating in the first season of NKL.
The top four teams of the round robin league will enter the knockout stage, where the two teams who will play the finals will be decided by playing the eliminator and qualifier. Kathmandu Mavericks and Pokhara Lakers will meet in the opening match.
