In the 38th edition of the Bangladesh Amateur Golf Championship, the Nepali golf team with double gold winner Sadbhav Acharya returned home on Sunday. Sadbhav made history as the first Nepali player to win the title of the tournament.
In the four-day tournament, Sadbhav scored an overall score of 3-over 291 and won the individual title by a wide margin of 6 strokes. Although Nepal has been participating since the second edition of 1988, this was the first time it won the title. Sadbhav also became the first Nepali player to win gold in both team and individual. On the individual side, earlier Subas Tamang won silver and Deepak Acharya won bronze. On the team side, Suwas and Sadbhav won the gold medal in the 36th edition.
Senior Vice President of Nepal Golf Association Pavitra Kumar Karki, General Secretary Deepak Acharya and member Deepak Thapa Magar and others welcomed Rahul VK, who won gold for the team, and Nepali women's player Tara Karki, painter and Mijakan Khatri, at Tribhuvan Airport. In the
team competition, Nepal won the gold by defeating the 'B' team of Bangladesh by 16 strokes. The pair of Sadbhava and Rahul won the gold with an even-par score of 288. A total of 100 athletes from 8 countries including Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bhutan, South Korea, Japan and Australia participated in the tournament.
