The first South Asian street defense competition organized by Nepal Jitkondo Martial Arts Association will be held on Saturday. South Asian Street Defense is going to be held for the first time in Nepal.
70 athletes from Nepal, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will participate in the tournament, said Ram Bahadur Thakuri, president of the organizing association, in a press conference on Thursday.
There will be 5 events for men and 2 events for women. In men, the competition will be held in the weight groups below 55 kg, below 60 kg, below 65 kg, below 70 kg and above 70 kg. Women will compete in under 55 kg and over 55 kg weight groups.
Shiv Bahadur Thapa, general secretary of the organizing association, informed that there are cash prizes for each weight group. The total prize money is 3 lakh 50 thousand rupees. The total prize money for each competition is 50,000.
Under the main sponsorship of Tokha Municipality, the two-day tournament will be held at the National Table Tennis Training Center in Lanchaur. The ninth Tedwang Jit Kondo seminar aimed at the
competition has started from Thursday. Players and coaches are participating in the two-day seminar. Nepal, India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Afghanistan will participate in both events.
Head coach Jacqueen Marcelo from Spain and assistant coach Michael Japla from Poland are conducting the seminar. They will be supported by the head coach Thapa.
