In the opening match, Madhesh Pradesh was bowled out for 12 runs at home. Madhesh's innings was reduced to 35.3 overs on Sunday. Madhesh batted poorly at the Ramjanki multi-purpose stadium in Janakpur.

Captain Harishankar Sah was dismissed by Nandan Yadav in 4 runs. Mayan Yadav, who was playing in control, hit Region Dhakal for a six in the next over. Mayan and Neeraj Kumar Yadav's partnership of 21 runs took Madhesh to 32-1 in 11 overs before the lunch break. 

After that, Madhesh looked very weak. Bagmati captain Sandeep Lamichhane bowled Mayan out for 21 runs. Mayan played 36 balls and hit 1 four and a six. After dismissing Mayan, Sandeep started taking one wicket after another. He dismissed Neeraj for 12 runs and Shahil Patel for 6 runs in one over. 

Pratish GC dismissed Rupesh Singh for 6 runs in his first ball. Vishal Patel, who hit a six off Sandeep, scored 16 runs and got out off Surya Tamang. Vishal and Abhishek Tiwary shared a partnership of 28 runs for the seventh wicket. Vishal scored 29 runs off 29 balls with 1 four and a six.

Before the tea break, Madhesh was on 98 runs losing 7 wickets in 33 overs. In the first over after the tea break, Pradeep Paswan scored 2 runs and became Surya's second victim. Sandeep dismissed Abhishek for 11 runs and took his fifth wicket. Madhesh's innings ended cheaply after Surya did not allow Ranjith to open the account. Sandeep took 5 wickets with 41 runs in 14 overs. Surya spent 7 runs in 2.3 overs and took 3 wickets and Nandan and Pratish took 1 wicket each. 

At the end of the first day, Bagmati scored 34 runs for the loss of 2 wickets by playing 13 overs. Shubh Kansakar scored 22 runs off 23 balls and Ishaan Pandey scored 9 runs off 38 balls unbeaten. Vishal bowled Ashutosh Ghirohia for zero and Rupesh Singh bowled Rit Gautam for 3 runs. The match started late due to heavy rain.

Madhesh Pradesh Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh inaugurated the game. At the inauguration, Chief Minister Singh, Janakpur Mayor Manoj Sah, Matihani Mayor Hari Prasad Mandal, CAN Vice President Roshan Singh and Secretary Paras Khadka said that since cricket craze is all over the country, it is time to start infrastructure development.

Chief Minister Singh informed that the Madhesh state government is in the process of inviting tenders to build a stadium in Janakpur, where the Jai Trophy is being held.
