Lalitkrishna Shrestha's smile is very charming in the picture placed at the ANFA complex ground in Satdobato. Now it is almost 10 years since his death. That smile may seem like yesterday to those who meet her. Now, why is his discussion more than Lalit Smriti ANFA U-18 Youth League football run in his name has ended.

Nepal Police Club was the champion, in total 12 team competition. Be that as it may, the tournament went largely silent and ended in silence.

However, those who watched the competition from the beginning to the end, their conclusion is that this kind of competition is what Nepali football needs. This is the first time that the U-18 age group competition has been held under the name of Lalit Smriti in a full league format. Again it was a tight league, playing each other twice. In that sense there were 241 matches, based on a double round robin. It should have been one game more than that, but Khumaltar could not bring the required players to his last game.

Otherwise the competition went well. The police were also the real winners. In the final match of the tournament, Police themselves lost 2-1 at the hands of NRT. So the joy of being a champion became a bit murky. Otherwise, the police played like a champion. Police won 15 out of 22 matches. The total points earned by the team was 48. The young team of the police came out, coached by veteran player Bholanath Silwal.

His reaction after the last game of the league was, 'We didn't win the last game, so it was not fun. But the joy of being a champion is in its own place.'' Police had already decided to win the title before this last match. So maybe the player played with some tricks? Or the police team didn't think they had to win this game. However, despite the joy of victory, coach Silwal was worried.

He said, 'The competition is over, the police has become the champion. Now the real question is, how to sustain these players. His concern was not only limited to the police team, it is about the players of the entire team playing this tournament. About 300 young players were registered for this tournament. More than half of them have shown the ability and skills to play in the league at the top level. Even some of them will be able to make a place in the national team sooner or later.  Even when talking about

police, this team has shown a lot of potential. The performance of the police team at the senior level has not been what it used to be. However, if this team later plays at a higher level to gain experience, the old reputation of police football can be restored. Coach Silwal feels the same way. The police team was awesome when he was a player. But it was on the decline. He also won the 'A' Division League three times for Police. Now he has won his first title as a coach.

His concerns can largely be resolved by the upcoming Shahid Smarak League 'B' Division. Because many players playing in this league have been signed for the upcoming league. NRT finished second after winning the last match of the competition. Before that, Sankata beat APF 3-1. Sankata finished third after NRT won. NRT scored 47 points while Sankata had 47 points. At one time, the club Three Star, led by the same Lalitkrishna, finished fourth with 43 points.

Threestar did not do well at the start of the tournament. But gradually it gained momentum. This pace was good. Again, in a way, the league was not very one-sided, in that sense, this league was good. For U-18 players to finally get to play 22 games is no mean feat. As Khumaltar could not field 11 players in the match against Tribhuvan Army, such tendencies should be discouraged. Otherwise, Nepali football will be limited only to Khyalkhyal.

This league has become an education not only for the players, but also for many who are gaining experience from the referee to the operation of the game. What will happen soon is the 'B' division. For that, the work of supplying players is the same as the current league, and this is also considered an achievement.

The U-16 league is going to pick up speed in the next day or two. And the second phase of women's league will also start. Experts say that why the All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) cannot or does not want to create 'hype' for such an important league is a matter of thought.
