Jeevanram Shrestha was elected as the President of Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC) on Saturday for the third consecutive term. He received only 20 of the 20 votes cast in the online election.

This election has been held amid various obstacles and bottlenecks. "According to the instructions of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), this election should have been completed before December," Shrestha responded after winning. Thanking everyone who voted for him, he said, "Thank you for the trust that my friends have shown in me. I am grateful for this support. I would like to express my commitment to do more work for the development and expansion of Nepali sports in the next term.'

According to Shrestha, representatives of IOC and Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) also joined the online election. He asserted that the Patan High Court's stay order was not against this election and claimed that they had not formally received the Supreme Court's decision even late on Friday.

He also said that due to illegal government interference, the election had to be conducted online. The election of OCA, which was held two months ago, was also held online. The Eectorial School of Engineering, which conducted the OCA elections, also conducted the same process in the NOC elections.  In the

election, candidacy registration was also done online. Some other representatives, including the candidate for the post of president and current general secretary Nilendraraj Shrestha, did not participate in the voting. Tej Gurung, another candidate for president, withdrew his candidacy at the last moment with the support of Jeevan Ram. The NOC has voting rights of 27 union representatives.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had ordered that NOC elections and other activities should not be carried out. The National Sports Council had also issued a notice in this regard. The special general assembly of NOC held on November 17 had amended the statute. According to that, the system of two terms in leadership was removed and four terms were passed.

Among the 19 members of the working committee of NOC, only the chairman post was elected. Before that, Jyoti Rana, Gopalsundar Kashpati, Prakash Shamsher Rana, Dawa Gurung, Anil Prasad Sharma, Ashokratna Vajracharya and Chaturananda Rajavaidya had already been elected as seven vice-presidents.

Rajeev Shrestha has been elected as general secretary, Tasi Ghale as treasurer, Ramji Bahadur Shrestha as co-secretary general, Bhimsingh Gurung, Ramkrishna Shrestha and Ramesh Prasad Sivakoti as secretary. Geeta Rana, Jitendra Bahadur Chand, Lakpa Chiring Lama, Manish Joshi and Ram Awale have been elected as members.
