NOC election is not unilateral, court order has not been received: Shrestha

Jeevanram Shrestha, the newly elected president, has claimed that the election of the Nepal Olympic Committee was conducted in accordance with the International Olympic Committee's charter, Olympic statutes and laws. He also said that no order has been received from the court to stop the general meeting of Nepal Olympic Committee.

Shrestha was re-elected as the president of the Nepal Olympic Committee (MOC) in the election held on Saturday. Of the 27 union representatives of NOC, 20 of them voted for Shrestha, while the remaining 7 boycotted the election.

Shrestha said that the election was completed online after the government prevented the general meeting from being physically held by the police. He said that the election was conducted in accordance with the legal provisions made by Nepal's Sports Development Act 2077 regarding the Olympic Committee. Shrestha also said that the general secretary of Bhutan's Olympic Committee, Sonam Chiring, supervised the online election and congratulated her after the election.

According to Shrestha, the General Assembly was held as per the deadline given by the International Olympic Committee to hold elections for the Nepal Olympic Committee within December 2024. He said that the IOC has also given deadlines to the NOC to hold elections. The election of the Nepal Olympic Committee should have been done in December. According to the IOC's charter, the Nepal Olympic Committee's statute, the election process has been completed according to the laws of Nepal," said Shrestha, "the Olympic International Committee . The government of Nepal, the court or any other group cannot be said to be the Olympic Committee. According to the International Olympic Committee. Not without the recognition of the IOC .'

Shrestha says that the government should make the Nepal Olympic Committee work. Does the government want the development of sports or not? He also said that it depends on the next step of the government whether they want to raise the value of Nepal by making Nepalese athletes compete at the international level. "If the Nepal Olympic Committee is not able to work, they will not be able to participate in any international competition under the Olympic Games," he said. Nepal's cabinet should not do it.'

20 out of 27 voters participated in the general assembly and voted in the election, Shrestha says that it cannot be said that the leadership was chosen unilaterally. He said that the NOC will run according to the charter of the IOC, the statutes of the NOC, and the laws of Nepal. He also said that any kind of obstruction in the autonomy of NOC is not acceptable. Stating that the Olympic sports will be promoted from the school level, Shrestha said that the international values and spirit of the Olympics will be spread widely in Nepal.

Among the 19 members of the working committee of NOC, the election was held only for the post of chairman. 18 officers and members were elected unopposed.
