Arsana Maharjan of Ward 17 of Lalitpur Metropolitan Municipality won gold in the women's singles of the 6th Mayor's Cup inter-ward table tennis competition on Saturday.
This is the third gold won by Arsana. Earlier, Arsana had won gold in U-12 girls singles and women's team event. Arsana defeated Ronisha Maharjan of Ward 12 by 13-11, 11-5, 11-8 in the final. Surami Shakya of Ward 8 and Arpita Maharjan of Ward 17 came third.
Saira Shakya in U-16 girls singles and Swarnim Shakya in U-12 boys singles won the competition organized by Lalitpur Municipal Corporation-9. Both are from Ward 16.
In the girls final at Gashcheh in Patan, Saira defeated Amerin Maharjan of Ward 19 in straight sets 11-7, 11-6, 11-7. Surami Shakya of Ward 8 and Ishanvi Maharjan of Ward 12 came third.
Swarnim defeated Rivan Muni Vajracharya of his own ward in a competitive set of 11-9, 11-13, 11-8, 11-13, 11-7. Nirvik Shakya of Ward 11 and Subhan Khadka of Ward 18 came third.
Veteran Purnashankar Shrestha of Ward 13 became the winner in men's singles over 60 years old. In the final, he defeated Anand Dhakhwa of Ward 10 in sets of 11-9, 5-11, 11-7, 8-11, 11-9. Kiran Kumar Bista of Ward 3 and Jagdishwar Joshi of Ward 19 settled for third place.
Earlier, Mamta Singh Rajbhandari of Ward 5 won gold in women's singles over 40 years old, Ward 7 won gold in men's team event and Ward 20 won gold in men's veteran team event.
