Pro Neeraj Tamang of Dharan equaled the total score record and won the title of Surya Nepal Eastern Open Golf. He equaled the record of Pro Shukra Bahadur Rai of Dharan with a score of 17-under 193 and lifted the second title of his career.
Neeraj shot a superb 5-under 65 at the Dharan Golf Club on Friday to edge past Bishnu Prasad Sharma by a wide margin of 10 strokes. Neeraj got a prize of Rs 1 lakh 50 thousand. He also broke the course record of 7 under on the first day. Vishnu finished second with a score of 7-under 203 on the
par 70 course. He carded a 2-under 68. He won Rs 1 lakh. Balbhadra Rai of Dharan finished third with 3 under 207. He won 75 thousand and scored 1 over 71.
Neeraj started the final 18 holes with a seven-stroke lead on Friday. He shot 5-under 31 on the front nine as he lopsidedly won the title. Neeraj, who hit three birdies from the first to the third hole, also saved one shot each on the sixth runway hole while playing a bogey free front nine.
Neeraj showed signs of breaking Shukra's record when the front nine was over. A double bogey on the 10th hole and a bogey on the 11th undermined that prospect. But he birdied the 12th, 13th and 17th holes to finish at even par 34 on the back nine. Neeraj equaled the winning score of 54 holes, narrowly missing out on setting a new record.
Vishnu birdied the third, fifth, sixth and ninth holes to complete the front nine at 4-under 32. He also shot four birdies on the back nine, but after bogeying two holes, Vishnu played 2 over 36. He saved 1-1 shots on the 13th, 14th, 16th and 17th holes. Bogeyed the 15th and 18th holes. Balabhadra finished the front nine in even par 36. He bogeyed the first and fourth holes but birdied the sixth and ninth holes. Played 1 over 35 on the back nine. He wasted 1-1 shots on the 13th and 16th holes against a birdie on the 11th hole.
Bhuvan Nagarkoti and Ravi Khadka tied for fourth with 2-under 208. Bhuvan shot a 4-under 66 and Ravi shot a 2-under 68. They received 55,000 each. Dhan Bahadur Thapa (70) and Bhuvankumar Rocca (73) finished sixth overall with a score of 1 under 209 and bagged 44,000 prizes. Ramey Magar (71) with an overall score of 1 over 211 finished eighth. He got 38 thousand.
Tank Bahadur Karki and Sanjay Lama finished ninth overall with a score of 4 over 214. Tank, who received the prize of 33,500, scored a 2-over 72 and Sanjay scored a 4-under 66. On the amateur side, Suman Pariyar of Dharan won the title by defeating Sundar Rai by 2 strokes. With a 1-under 69 on the final day, Suman finished the tournament with an overall score of 1-under 209. Sundar finished the match at 1 over 211. He finished with a 1-under 69 on Friday.
Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd Deputy General Manager Keshav Pradhan and Nepal Golf Association Vice President Tilak Rai presented the prize to the winner. Saturday will be the Pro-Am event. Eastern Open is the third tournament under Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2025/25.
