It is a common belief in world cricket that first class cricket is the highest and real cricket. It is more than one day. The history of Nepali cricket itself is long, before the birth of one-day cricket, there used to be multi-day cricket in Nepal. However, now officially there will be more than one day cricket tournament in Nepal.
The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) has decided to conduct Jai Trophy Men's Elite Cup Cricket from the third week of December. Can, in a statement on Thursday, said that this tournament is going to be held in accordance with the goal of becoming a full member of the International Cricket Council (ICC). CAN plans to make this competition a first-class format in the future.
This competition is going to be held in the memory of Jayakumar Nath Shah, former president of CAN. Earlier, the ODI Jai Trophy was held in the name of Shah, who is the longest-serving CAN president. This tournament kept Nepali cricket alive in the 80s and 90s. Later, Jai Trophy stopped being held.
A total of 4 teams will participate in the next elite competition. The league stage of the tournament will be played over two days and the finals will be played over three days. The competition to be held from December 21 to January 3 will be held in Janakpur and Birgunj of Madhesh province. Participating teams include Nepal Police and Tribhuvan Army Club along with Vagmati and Madhesh provinces.
The top four teams in last year's Prime Minister's Cup National Cricket Tournament are going to play the first edition of the Jai Trophy Elite Cup. CAN has also released the competition schedule.
Accordingly, each team will play the other team once in the league stage. Thus, there will be 6 matches in the first phase. Then the top two teams will play the final. According to the
game schedule, there will be a competition between Madhesh and Wagmati in Janakpur and Police and Army in Birganj on 21st and 22nd. On December 24 and 25, there will be a match between Army and Wagmati in Janakpur and Madhesh and Police in Birganj. On December 27 and 28, police and Wagmati will clash in Janakpur and Army and Madhesh in Birganj. The final will be held in Birgunj from January 1 to 3.
