The under-19 women's cricket team, which is preparing to play the ICC World Cup, has started closed training from Wednesday at the model ground of the under-construction cricket stadium. The team will train for 12 days at the stadium in Bharatpur Metropolitan City-15 Rampur.
The ICC U-19 Women's World Cup is being held in Malaysia from January 18 to February 2.
'We are practicing here. Ground and pitch condition was good. We will not repeat some of the weaknesses of the Asia Cup in the World Cup. We are trying to improve fielding and running between the wickets," said team captain Pooja Mahato. As the power hitting in the team is a little weak, he believes that the camp will help to improve it as well.
'We have been doing well so far. There is confidence going into the Super Six. We have defeated Pakistan. This means that we will beat the Test playing country in the World Cup as well,'' Pooja showed confidence. Nepal will play the first match of the group stage against Bangladesh on January 18. After that, Nepal is playing Scotland on January 20 and Australia on January 22. The team is under the main training of Mahesh Prasad Rizal.
"We are going to work hard here on all aspects of bowling, batting, fielding and fitness," said head coach Rizal. Vice President of Nepal Cricket Association (CAN) Roshan Singh said that the stadium was being built in Rampur and because the model ground was ready, he chose this place for closed training. "The stadium being built here should be completed on time so that everyone's attention should be diverted from it," he said.
So far 13 percent of the construction work has been completed. In 2027, the U-19 Women's Cricket World Cup is being held in Nepal. We want the World Cup match to be held in the stadium here. For this, we are confident that we will be able to work soon," said Renu Dahal, head of Bharatpur metropolis. The stadium is being built in readiness of the metropolis.
The players of the team were selected from the Maiyadevi U-19 national cricket tournament held last year at the model ground of the under-construction stadium. The atmosphere of cricket game has increased in Bharatpur. At this time, the U-19 women's team has come here for practice before going to the World Cup. A stadium is being built here. The way things are going, there is a possibility that the 2027 World Cup will be held here, said Sudeep Piya, president of the Chitwan District Cricket Association.
