The New Road Football Team (NRT) has entered the semi-finals of the Falgunand Gold Cup held at Phidim in Panchthar. NRT secured their trip to the semi-finals of the 11th Falgunand Gold Cup by defeating rival Sahlesh Youth Club Siraha 5-4 at Tybaker.
After both teams played a goalless draw within the allotted 90 minutes, the match was decided by a tiebreaker. In the tie breaker, the foreign player Henry, who played for Sahlesh, failed to score, and the team lost to NRT. Kritish Hurau, Abhishek Limbu Saroj Tamang, Anjan Bisht and foreign player Kallars scored goals for NRT in Tybaker while Kuldeep Karki, Vivek Rai, Dorje Tamang and Phaguram Tharu scored goals for Sahlesh.
Sahlesh's Henry's shot was blocked by NRT's Pramijaya Gachchdar and the team was forced to return home from the quarter finals.
NRT's Abhishek Limbu was declared man of the match and was awarded with 10,000 cash. With this, the quarter-final stage of the Falgunand Gold Cup has ended. The first match of the semi-final stage is scheduled to be played between the host Fidim Sporting Club and Church Boys Club Kathmandu on Friday.
The final of the competition which started on 6th of January will be held on 15th of January. Dipendra Thapa Magar, chairman of the organizer Fidim Sporting Club, informed that the winner of this year's Falgunand Gold Cup will be awarded Rs 10 lakh 555 and the runner-up will be awarded Rs 5 lakh 555.
