The host Phidim Sporting Club has entered the quarter finals of Falgunand Gold Cup held at Phidim in Panchthar.
The host team entered the quarter-finals of the eleventh Falgunanda Gold Cup after defeating the rival Karsang Football Club of India by 5 goals to 4 in a tiebreaker.
After both teams played a goalless draw during the scheduled 90 minutes, the decision was taken by tie breaker. In the
tiebreaker, Ashish Chapagai, Vishal Darji, Ram Waji, Sukraj Rai and Niroj Lingden scored for Fidim Sporting, while Akash Pradhan, Vishal Bhandari, Prashant Chhetri and Rustam Pradhan scored for Karsang. Chongle Lama of Karsang's shot was blocked by Fidim's goalkeeper Mirak Khajum, and the team was eliminated from the first opening game.
In the opening match on Saturday, goalkeeper Mirak Khajum of Fidim Sporting Club was declared the best player and received a cash prize of 10,000 rupees.
On Sunday, there will be a match between Machindra Football Club Kathmandu and Jhapa-11 Jhapa, the organizer of Fidim Sporting Club, president Dipendra Thapa Magar informed.
Fidim municipality chief Mitraprasad Kafle inaugurated the final of the competition which is scheduled to be completed on December 15. 10 teams from Nepal and India are participating in the
competition. In Falgunand Gold Cup, which has the highest prize money in the district, this year the winner will receive Rs 10 lakh 555 and the runner-up will receive Rs 5 lakh 555.
The Falgunanda Gold Cup, which started in 2065 in memory of Nepal's 16th Vibhuti Falgunanda Lingden, was suspended until 2075.
With the tenth edition, the competition was postponed due to the collapse of the playground wall and the corona epidemic. The competition has been conducted again from this year.
