Nepal Women U-19 in the semi-finals of the Asia Cup
With the all-round performance of captain Pooja Mahato, Nepal achieved a historic 6-wicket win over Pakistan in the ACC Women's U-19 Asia Cup Cricket on Monday. This is the first time that Nepal has defeated a Test nation team in any group of women's cricket.
Pakistan, who won the toss and elected to bat on Monday, scored 104 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in the scheduled 20 overs. After Pooja scored an unbeaten 47 runs, Nepal completed the target before 1 over at the Air Mass Oval in Kuala Lumpur.
Nepal, who played for the first time in the Women's U-19 Asia Cup, achieved great success in the opening game. Nepal qualified for the ACC U-19 Asia Cup and the ICC U-19 World Cup after winning the Asia Qualifier for the ICC U-19 Women's Twenty20 World Cup in UAE last month.
After the victory over Pakistan, Nepal and India have reached the semi-finals from this group. India is in Group A along with Pakistan and Nepal. While Pakistan was defeated by India by 9 wickets the previous day, Nepal directly decided the semi-final by winning the decisive game. Nepal will play against India U-19 on Tuesday. The team that wins this match will be the group winner.
Before playing the ICC U-19 World Cup for the first time, Nepal has also performed well in the opportunities it received in the Asia Cup. Nepal has been placed in Group D along with Australia, Bangladesh and Scotland in the U-19 World Cup to be held in Malaysia. Nepal will play Bangladesh on January 18, Scotland on January 20 and Australia on January 22. When Nepal's captain Pooja scored 30 runs in 33 balls, the Pakistani fielder dropped the catch. Taking full advantage of that, Pooja scored an unbeaten 17 off the next 14 balls. She hit 3 fours while scoring 47 runs off 47 balls. After hitting the winning run, Pooja went to the ground and stole the wicket.
Sana Pravin hit 1 boundary in 15 balls for 10, Savitri Dhami 8, Soni Pakhrin hit 1 boundary in 20 balls for 13 runs and Jyotsni's Marasini got out for zero.
Pakistan's Fatima Khan and Curatulain Asan took 1 wicket each. Earlier, Pooja did not let Pakistan open with her bowling. She took 2 wickets for 27 runs in 4 overs. Rachna Chaudhary, Rhea Sharma and Simana KC took 1 wicket each. Pakistan opener Komal Khan scored 38 runs. She hit 2 fours off 43 balls. Maham Anish scored an unbeaten 29 off 38 balls with 2 fours, Ravail Farhan scored 13 off 15 balls and captain Jufisan Ayaz scored 12 unbeaten runs.
