Karan Rawal of Tribhuvan Army Club has won the Open Gorkha Marathon title from the famous religious place Mankamana to Gorakhkali temple.
Karan from Bajhang won the first place by covering the prescribed distance in 2 hours 36 minutes and 7 seconds. The Manakamana-Gorakhkali route marathon was a fitting experience for Karan the winner.
He said, 'It is a very good route, offroad too,' he said, 'It is a pleasure to win the first marathon from Mankamana to Gorakhkali temple.' Karan won a prize of 1 lakh 50 thousand rupees.
Homalal Shrestha of Tribhuvan Army Club was second in 2 hours 40 minutes 44 seconds. Army's Gajendra Rai took the third place with a time of 2 hours 44 minutes 6 seconds. 1 lakh for the second runner and 75 thousand rupees for the third runner.
Govind Karki, Gopal Tamang, Subas Karki, Tilak Sunuwar, Rajan Myoyunga, Kul Bahadur Basnet and Pratap Thamsohang won from 4th to 10th place respectively. They all belong to the army. 60,000 for the fourth, 50,000 for the fifth, 40,000 for the sixth, 35,000 for the seventh, 25,000 for the eighth, 20,000 for the ninth and 15,000 for the 10th.
District Sports Development Committee Chairman Krishnasingh Basnet said that the marathon race was organized with the aim of promoting religious and historical places. The race started from Mankamana to Taklung, Tinmane Bhanjyang, Ghairung, Namjung, Kahule Bhangar (Lakhan Thapa Memorial), Bungkot, Dhungegade, Hospital Chowk, Harmatari Chowk, Waspark, Kalo Var Chowtara, Tinchape Water Office, Paslang Chowtara, Dharapani, VP Chowtara, Big Yard, Satipipal, Gaihrikuva, Hanumandhoka (Gorakhkali Temple) reached Hanumanthan and ended. The
marathon distance was fixed at 42.195 km. President Basnet informed that 150 runners competed in the competition.
