Karan KC will captain Kathmandu Gurkhaz in Nepal Premier League (NPL) cricket. Gurkhaz announced the captain and vice-captain through their social media on Sunday. Namibian captain Gerhard Erasmus is the vice-captain of the team.
Gurkhaz will start the NPL by playing against Chitwan Rhinos on Monday. Gurkhaz took Karan as a 'marquee' player. Karan has previously captained various franchise teams in Dhangadhi Premier League, Everest Premier League and Nepal T-20 League.
Erasmus arrived in Kathmandu on Saturday to play NPL. In the World Cup League 2 held in Kathmandu in February, under the captaincy of Erasmus, Namibia defeated Nepal in 2 games and the Netherlands in 1 game in a total of 4 games. Erasmus has recently led Namibia to the Twenty20 World Cup under his leadership.
Among the 'marquee' players, only Janakpur Bolts have changed their captain so far. Janakpur's marquee player is Asif Sheikh. But Janakpur under the captaincy of Anil Sah won against Biratnagar Kings in Saturday's match. Janakpur will face Karnali Yaks in the second match on Monday. This will be Janakpur's second game and Karnali's first.
This game is seen as a competition between two top foreign players Jimmy Neesham and Shikhar Dhawan who came to play in NPL. Former Indian opening batsman Dhawan came to Kathmandu to play Karnali Yaks on Friday.
He was presented inside the field during the opening of the NPL on Saturday. This is Dhawan's first league outside the Indian Premier League (IPL). Nisham has come to Kathmandu on Sunday.
