Nepal won 2-1 against Guam on Wednesday in Davis Cup tennis in Isa Town, Bahrain.
On the court of Polytechnic University in Manama, Nepal won two singles matches and suffered a defeat in doubles. This is Nepal's second participation in the Davis Cup competition as 'The World Cup of Tennis'. Davis Cup is a tournament played by the country's team. In the
singles, Nepal's professional tennis player Abhishek Bastola easily defeated Guam's Derek Okuhama in a set of 6-1, 6-1. Abhishek defeated players from Maldives, Qatar and Yemen in his Davis Cup debut last year.
In the next singles match, Pradeep Khadka won 6-2, 6-2 against Daniel Lirarens of Guam. Pradeep is also the player who got the winning result against Yemen in the first edition. As for the
doubles, the pair of Pranav Khanal and Pranav Manandhar lost their match against Arman Sachdev and Camden Camacho 6-2, 6-2. This is the first participation of two Pranavs in the Davis Cup.
15 countries including Nepal are participating in Group Four of Asia and Oceania region. Nepal has been placed in group 'A' in the division into four groups. Guam and Brunei are in this group.
This is Guam's sixth Davis Cup participation since 2018. Guam reached the upper division and now dropped to the lower division. This is Brunei's 16th Davis Cup participation.
Two teams from this region will be promoted to the upper division in the competition that will be held until November 23. If Nepal wins its group, it will play a playoff with the top team in Group D. It includes Bahrain, Yemen, Bangladesh and Tajikistan.
