On this day (July 11) in 2010, Spain won the 19th FIFA World Cup title. In the final match held at Soccer City in Johannesburg, South Africa, Spain defeated the Netherlands 1-0 to win the World Cup title for the first time. Spain beat Germany and the Netherlands in the semi-finals to reach the final.

In the final, the game was pushed to extra time after there was no goal in the scheduled 90 minutes. Andre Iniesta's goal in extra 30 minutes gave Spain the title. Also, Spain became the first European country to win the World Cup title held outside Europe. Iniesta was declared 'Man of the Match' in the

final. Spanish goalkeeper Iker Casillas won the Golden Glove. FIFA said that 85 and a half people were present in the stadium to watch the final match and 91 million people watched the match on television.

Spain's 'tiki-taka' style was praised in the World Cup. This style of short passing, control of ball positions was previously used in Spain's La Liga. Spain also won the 2012 Eurocup with this style of play.
