The first inter-provincial national sports competition has started in Bharatpur. Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal inaugurated the tournament in a program organized at the cricket stadium under construction in Rampur, Bharatpur on Sunday evening.
State level teams from all seven provinces will compete in nine different games. The competition will run till Saturday 1st Baisakh.
Speaking at the opening event, Member Secretary of Bagmati Province Sports Development Committee, Suryalal Bhandari said that the provincial team should also be strong to build a strong national level team. He said that the competition between provincial level teams will give the players an opportunity to improve and due to this, the performance of the players will be strengthened in the international level competition.
He also said that there is a plan to hold the competition in each province separately every year. The competition will include football, volleyball, cricket, boxing, karate, taekwondo, athletics, badminton and swimming. The match of both men and women volleyball groups will be held at Guest House Chaur in Bharatpur. Women's football will be played at Bakhan Smriti Stadium in Bharatpur Shardanagar, while men's football will be played at Gauritar Stadium in Hetounda.
Both men's and women's cricket will be played on the model ground of the under-construction stadium in Rampur. Boxing, Karate and Taekwondo will be held at the exhibition center of Chitwan Udyog Sangha in Bharatpur. Badminton will be held at Bharatpur Covered Hall and Athletics will be held at Chitravan Rangshal, Bharatpur Shardanagar. Similarly, swimming is done in the swimming pool of a resort in Bharatpur Deonagar. Member Secretary of Bagmati Province Sports Development Committee Suryalal Bhandari informed that 2,500 players and officials and judges will participate in the
competition with an additional 500 judges. He said that the participating athletes will get daily allowance like the joint secretary of the Nepal government and also have an insurance worth 30 lakh rupees. The competition will end in Hetouda.
