Dharan Football Club has made a winning start in the seventh edition of the Gold Cup football tournament under international invitation. In the opening match held on Friday at Barah Kshetra-5 in Sunsari, Dharan secured a place in the semi-finals after defeating the visiting team Amukt Parivar India by 2-1.

Captain Dorje Tamang and Anson Rai scored one goal in Dharan's victory. Tamang scored in the 35th minute and Rai scored in the 81st minute. On behalf of the Indian team, Kunjman Thapa scored 1 goal in the 61st minute of the game. Dharan's Anson Rai was declared the man of the match and received 5,000 cash. 

Dharan will now compete in the semi-finals with the winner of the third quarter-final match between Planning Boys Union Kathmandu and Hanami B FC Chitwan on Sunday 27th March. In the second quarter-final match to be held on Saturday, the organizer said that the competition between the host Nustar Football Club and Kanchenjunga Football Club of India will take place. 

8 teams, including two Indians, are participating in the competition, which will last until the 30th of Chaitra. The winner of the competition will receive a trophy with 4 lakh rupees, while the runner-up will receive a trophy with 2 lakh rupees, informed the president of the club, Veshraj Karki.
