Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa has said that the Congress will demand answers from the government regarding the passport printing case both inside and outside Parliament.
Speaking at a program organized on the occasion of BP Memorial Day on Thursday, Thapa said that news reports in the media about the case have raised serious questions about the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority as well.
Thapa stated that since the issue of who awarded the passport printing contract to whom is sub judice in court, the legal process will determine the outcome. However, he said that if there has been any irregularity, whoever is involved should be prosecuted according to the law.
"If there has been an irregularity, whoever committed it must be brought within the legal framework. We will praise the government for that," he said, "but it is our responsibility to question whether the government is operating according to the constitution."
Thapa noted that the government, including the Prime Minister, is obliged to work within the limits set by the constitution, and reminded that the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority has the constitutional authority to investigate even if the Prime Minister or a minister has acted illegally with malicious intent.
