The Nepali Congress’s internal dispute has come to the fore through separate programs organized on Wednesday to mark the 44th BP Memorial Day. The establishment and dissident factions held separate events, each clearly conveying their own political messages.
Leader Shekhar Koirala also attended the program organized by the dissident faction at the Nepal Academy in Kamaladi, Kathmandu. Koirala’s presence is being viewed as particularly significant, as he had previously refrained from participating in programs organized by the faction led by former president Sher Bahadur Deuba.
The event was attended by then acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka, former office bearers Prakash Man Singh, Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Bimalendra Nidhi, Shashank Koirala, Vijay Kumar Gachhadar, and other top leaders. Amid growing internal disagreements following the special general convention, this joint program organized by the dissident faction is also being seen as a show of strength. 
Meanwhile, the establishment faction led by President Gagan Thapa is observing BP Memorial Day as a two-day event. On Wednesday, the establishment faction organized a ‘Green Run’ aimed at raising public awareness about climate change, and on Thursday, it will hold a special program focused on BP Koirala’s ideas, democratic socialism, and contemporary political issues. The event is expected to be attended by top party leaders, intellectuals, and well-wishers.
Since the special general convention, differences between the establishment and dissident factions have deepened regarding leadership, organizational management, and preparations for the upcoming 15th general convention. The dissident faction, claiming that the basis for party unity has weakened, is preparing to announce a national gathering today.
