Controversy has been brewing in the Nepali Congress in Bara since the House of Representatives elections and the special general convention of the Nepali Congress on February 21. In the course of the controversy, a clash broke out between the establishment and the disgruntled factions at the party office in Kalaiya on Tuesday. Extensive police deployment has been made to manage the tension. The clash took place between party president Rajesh Rai Yadav, who was suspended from the central committee after the elections, and cadres of the establishment faction.
After Yadav's suspension, party vice-president Manoj Bhatta has been appointed as the acting president. Bhatta had discussed with the district leaders and workers at the party office on Monday and discussed the issue of concluding the party's root campaign in the district on July 7 and celebrating BP Jayanti on Thursday, and called an extended meeting at 11 am on Tuesday. Meanwhile, tension arose between the two sides when the District Women's Association was holding a program at the party office, said the party's district secretary Bhaiyaram Yadav.
Police are escorting participants of the Women's Union program out of the office. The Women's Union program has been disrupted amid tension. The Central Disciplinary Committee had suspended the then president, Ray, on charges of not playing an active role in winning the party's candidates in the elections held on 21 Falgun after the special general convention. This issue has been a source of controversy since the general convention and the election period. The then president, Ray, is pro-Deuba, while Bhatt is pro-Gagan Thapa.
