Nepali Congress Vice President Bishwaprakash Sharma has expressed his disagreement with the proposal to form a government between the major political forces of the Provincial Assembly, the Congress, the UML and the Nepali Communist Party (NCP).
Referring to the recent political developments in the Far West and Karnali provinces and the initiative taken by UML Chairman KP Oli to share power with the three major parties of the Provincial Assembly, Sharma said in a press conference on Sunday that the Provincial Assembly cannot be made without an opposition.
Sharma said that all the major parties should not participate in a single government and make the Provincial Assembly without an opposition, but rather that the Congress is ready to be in the opposition, not in the government. Sharma had earlier announced his separation from the UML, saying that the UML's political policy and its role in the provincial government were 'unfounded'.

Referring to the political developments in the Sudurpaschim and Karnali provinces, Deputy Speaker Shama said that the presence of the opposition in the provincial assembly is an indispensable basis for a democratic system. He opined that it would not be appropriate for all major parties to participate in a single government, weakening the very essence of the constitution while the debate on constitutional amendment is ongoing.
‘No provincial assembly should be without an opposition,’ Sharma said. ‘We will seek a solution through dialogue, keeping in mind the self-respect and coexistence of all during the formation or reorganization of the provincial government,’ he said. ‘But contrary to the mandate of the citizens, the essence of the constitution, and the psychology of the common citizen, all major parties do not believe that all major parties should be in the same government.’
Congress’s ‘Green Run’ program on BP Koirala’s 44th Memorial Day
Congress has announced a new political campaign to spread public awareness about climate change on BP Koirala’s 44th Memorial Day.
The party’s Central Policy, Research and Training Institute has announced that it will organize a 5-kilometer ‘Green Run’ competition from UN Park in Lalitpur on Monday morning. Congress Vice President Sharma said that party leaders and office bearers, including party President Gagan Thapa, will also participate in the ‘Green Run’ program.
According to him, there will be a program focused on climate change on July 6 and a symposium on ‘New Situation: New Resolution, New Campaign’ at the National Assembly on July 7.
At the program, President Thapa is scheduled to announce a new campaign after the ‘Jara Campaign’.
The party has also stated that it will establish a ‘Humanitarian Assistance Fund’ based on the number of participants in the ‘Green Run’. It has been mentioned that assistance will be provided from the fund for the welfare of the elderly and children of the squatter families who have been displaced recently.
