Congress President Gagan Kumar Thapa has expressed his disagreement with the proposal to form a provincial government with three major parties. Speaking at the unveiling of the statue of saint leader Krishna Prasad Bhattarai and the inauguration of the 44th BP Memorial Week held in Lalitpur on Sunday, he said that such a proposal would be an insult to democratic values and public opinion. President Thapa commented that forming a government with three parties would mean making the provincial parliament without an opposition. He made it clear that the Congress cannot accept it as forming a three-party government is different from the mandate given by the people.
'No matter what the outcome, the Nepali Congress will not compromise on principles. We will not repeat the mistakes of the past. We have rejected the proposal to form a provincial government with three parties as it is against the mandate. The idea of considering power as everything has destabilized Nepali politics since the past,' he said. 'The tendency to form an alliance with one party before the election and form a government with another after the election has made the role of the government and the opposition ambiguous. Power-centric politics has damaged not only the Congress but all the old political parties.'
