In the House of Representatives, the opposition parties, led by the main opposition party Nepali Congress, have registered a motion of urgent public importance demanding a discussion on the management of landless, squatters and unorganized settlements.

The motion of urgent public importance put forward by the opposition parties was registered on Wednesday. The motion mentions that five issues should be discussed in the House of Representatives.

1. The settlements were demolished without identifying and verifying the actual landless, landless Dalit, squatters and unorganized settlers, and without adequate prior notice, consultation, written rehabilitation plans and safe alternative housing.

2. Citizens who were said to have been moved from risky riverbanks to safe places were again kept in flood-prone holding centers without minimum arrangements for clean water, nutritious food, sanitation, health services, privacy and security.

3. Pregnant women, mothers, infants, children, senior citizens, people with disabilities, and chronically ill people have not been provided with necessary special services, and schools, books, and educational materials have been destroyed by bulldozers and floods, affecting children's education and exams.

4. When families are moved away from their places of employment, their livelihoods are taken away, and families who have not received relief money or have problems with their documents are forced to leave the holding center by withholding food instead of resolving the issue.

5. There is no independent investigation into the mental trauma, suicide, and suspicious deaths caused by displacement, the role of unauthorized political or non-governmental individuals in rehabilitation is unclear, and the Supreme Court's order, the Constitution, the Right to Housing Act, 2075 BS, and international human rights commitments have not been implemented.

The opposition parties have mentioned in the resolution that all political parties have committed to providing safe housing and land titles to landless and squatter citizens. They have also urged not to make the issue of squatters and landless people a means of partisan accusations or political gain. The opposition parties said that a just, humane and long-term solution to the problem of squatters and landless people should be found through cooperation between the government, opposition, local levels and concerned communities.

The proposal, proposed by the leader of the main opposition party, Bhishma Raj Angdembe, has been supported by the whips of the UML, NCP and Shram Sanskriti Party. UML's Ain Bahadur Mahar, NCP's Yubaraj Dulal and Shram Sanskriti's Aren Rai have expressed support for the proposal.
