The Nepali Congress has reached the conclusion of ending its power partnership with the UML in all seven provinces. An effort has begun within the party to break the equation with the UML and find a new political alternative.
According to sources, the Congress leadership has concluded that it cannot continue its cooperation with the UML. The two main reasons for this are the disagreement over the perspective of last year's Gen-G movement and the Congress' dissatisfaction with the UML's behavior in the provincial governments, a leader said.
The source said that the Congress is now preparing to recall its ministers from all provincial governments. After that, a new strategy for the provincial government will be decided based on an understanding with NCP Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal. According to the source, if an understanding is reached between the two parties, the Congress will join hands with the Maoists in the provincial government. If an agreement is not reached, the Congress has made a strategy to remain in opposition in the provinces as well as at the center.
A discussion was held on this issue between Nepali Congress President Gagan Thapa and NCP Chairman Dahal on Tuesday. The source said that during the discussion, the future of provincial governments and power sharing were discussed along with a possible new power equation at the center.
However, the Congress has not yet made a formal decision on ending its collaboration with the UML or forming a new power equation. Sources claim that dialogue between the top leaders of both parties is ongoing.
Congress Vice President Bishwaprakash Sharma said that he wants to break free from the instigative collaboration with the UML.
