UML Chief Whip Ain Bahadur Mahar has drawn the attention of the Parliament by saying that he is constantly receiving death threats. Speaking during a special session of the House of Representatives on Tuesday, Mahar informed that he has received threats of shooting through social media and phone.
Chief Whip Mahar said that as a representative of the people, he was targeted for criticizing the government based on its merits and demerits. Mahar has also made public the details of the person who made the threats in the House. According to him, the threat of shooting came from a Facebook ID named Parajuli Ram.
He said, 'We have come to this House with the people's consent. I am constantly receiving threats of shooting and death on Facebook and phone when I try to show the government the right path.'
He said that he has also received threats of physical attack from another person named Purnavikram Chhetri. He said that receiving death threats in public is a serious matter and has drawn the attention of the House and the relevant bodies to this matter. He complained that he is not against the government in any way, but is facing such threats when speaking out on issues of public concern.
