In the House of Representatives meeting, the opposition UML has requested Speaker DP Aryal to summon Prime Minister Balendra Shah. UML MP Rajendra Kumar Rai made the request to call Prime Minister Shah to the parliamentary session to respond to issues raised by the opposition parties.

In Wednesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, MP Rai said the Speaker should issue a ruling to have Prime Minister Shah respond to previous remarks he made regarding border issues. “It has been 1 month and 15 days since Prime Minister Balendra Shah expressed his views from this rostrum. The opposition has been raising the issue in unison, saying those remarks were irrelevant,” Rai said. “The Speaker must issue a ruling for Prime Minister Balendra Shah, he must be summoned.”

MP Rai said that, according to the provisions in the House of Representatives Regulations, Prime Minister Shah should be called to parliament. He stated that the Speaker must issue a ruling to summon the Prime Minister as per the regulations. He said, “He must respond to the issues raised here. Do we always have to protest? Do we always have to keep raising these issues? How long will this go on? I want to ask that Balendra Shah be brought to this rostrum to clarify the views he expressed previously.”

In the House of Representatives meeting on Jestha 17, Prime Minister Balendra Shah had stated that Nepal had also encroached on Indian territory. Opposition parties have been raising their voices in parliament demanding clarification and retraction of that statement.

Similarly, regarding the Speaker, instructions have been given to remove from the parliamentary record the remarks made by MP Rai. Speaker Aryal has directed the parliamentary secretariat to remove from the record the comments made by MP Rai about him.
