Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) parliamentary party leader Gyan Bahadur Shahi has expressed anger that the government has not shown interest in rescuing citizens even when they drown in the Karnali River.
Speaking in the House of Representatives meeting on Monday, he objected to the government's failure to operate a helicopter for rescue even though Home Minister Sudhan Gurung had promised in Parliament that a passenger vehicle going from Surkhet to Kalikot would be rescued by helicopter.
'What happens when ministers are riding in helicopters today, but should not be rescued when people drown in the Karnali River?' Shahi asked, 'Are the people of Karnali not citizens of this country? The answer to this should come today. The honorable Speaker should rule on the government to answer this. Do the citizens of Karnali have the right to live or not? Are the youth of Karnali the future of this country or not? Or is it our curse to be born in Karnali?’
Complaining that the state has shown insensitivity even in saving the lives of citizens, he said, ‘While ministers were flying in the sky, citizens were drowning in the river, Mr. Speaker. This is not just an accident, but the biggest proof of the state’s insensitivity. Therefore, I would like to demand a clear answer from the government through the honorable Speaker – What is the value of the lives of citizens of Karnali, Mr. Speaker? The phone is not picking up.
