NCP Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal has made it clear that party unification with UML is not possible immediately.

Addressing the unity meeting and training program of the Gandaki Province Committee held in Pokhara on Wednesday, Coordinator Dahal said that there is no possibility of unification immediately without a serious review and guarantee as the past unity did not last.

Discussing the widespread concern and confusion among the cadres regarding party unification, he put forward a strategy to move forward by working together in parliament, streets and elections rather than hastily unifying. ‘When I said this, some friends felt that the party unification would be announced tomorrow. Many people even asked me when I went to the National Assembly,’ he said, ‘but party unification is not possible now. As Madhavji (Madhav Kumar Nepal) said, if ideas and feelings match while forming a front, it does not mean that unification cannot happen in the future, but if unification is done in the same way without reviewing the past, the past will remain the same.’ He claimed that only cooperation in parliament, streets and the upcoming elections can change the political situation.

Presenting a serious political and ideological self-review among the cadres, he admitted that since the peace agreement and the constitution were declared, the leadership and the entire party have been caught in a maze of tactics rather than strategy. Reviewing the past 20 years, he said that the current situation has been created when the party abandoned long-term strategy and indulged in short-term power interests and tactics.

‘In the past, we used to fight for the democratic revolution, the rights of women, indigenous people, Dalits, workers, and farmers, but now we are fighting for our own positions, facilities, and money,’ he added, ‘I do not blame the cadres for this. This historical mistake came from above, it came from the leadership.’

He commented that after the leadership level repeatedly started aligning with the Congress, UML, and Madhesi parties to become the Prime Minister, the cadres of the lower committees have also fallen into the distortion of killing positions at all costs, up to the provincial, local, and ward levels. He admitted that the party deviated from the socialist trend and indulged in individualistic, capitalist and anarchist interests due to the lack of development of ideas after the constitution was made.

Coordinator Dahal expressed his determination that the upcoming general convention would not be ordinary for him and that it would not be allowed to become just a place to select leadership in a 'letter-by-letter' manner. He said that the time had come for the party to once again 'disorganize' both in terms of ideology and organization. He announced that he and leader Madhav Kumar Nepal were ready to give up the lust for the post and make way for a new leadership for the transformation of the party.

'If they have been saying that they will not leave the leadership even if they die for 40-42 years, you can be assured, we are ready to leave, we have no interest in remaining in this leadership,' he said, 'You should either correct me and Madhavji together, or remove them from the general convention, I will help. But the determination to make any sacrifice for the defense of national independence and the new class struggle is now necessary.'

Citing the example of China, India and America taking advantage of the balance of age and experience, he argued that the sudden capitalist generational transfer of the 'RSVP' style in Nepal cannot be accepted in the communist movement. However, to make the party youth-friendly, he announced a new organizational plan to make it mandatory to bring 50 percent youth representatives from the grassroots level until the next general convention and to form small and agile committees through democratic methods, instead of junior-senior, through electoral competition.
