49 women have been elected to the 99-member Central Working Committee elected at the first National General Convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP). With this, the representation of women in the party's new Central Committee has reached 49.49 percent.
According to the final results released by the Central Election Commission on Friday morning, 99 Central Working Committee members have been elected through open, inclusive and regional quotas from all seven provinces. Of these, 50 are men and 49 are women.
According to the RSWP statute, the Central Working Committee will consist of a directly elected President from the National General Convention, 99 elected Central Members, 51 members nominated by the President, and ex-officio members from the Province Presidents of all seven provinces. There is an arrangement for a candidate for the post of President to automatically become a Central Member.
Of the elected Central Members, 35 will be elected from the Province and 64 from the National Level. There is an arrangement to elect 35 members from each province at the rate of five. At least 14 of the members elected from the provinces must be women. At least 2 women have been ensured from each province.
It is seen that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has given high priority to women's participation through an open and inclusive electoral system. In the context of the constitution's assimilation of the principle of inclusive representation in state bodies, women's representation in the new central committee of the RSS has reached almost half. The election of 49 women in the 99-member committee is significant in terms of gender balance at the party's leadership level, says advocate Binita Bogati.
From a provincial perspective, all five central members elected from Bagmati are women. Similarly, 4 women have won from Koshi, Madhesh, Lumbini and Karnali. 3 men and 2 women were elected as central members in Gandaki and Sudurpaschim.
Even though women were included only in the quota, Binita Kathayat, who was elected as a central member from Karnali, said that it was very positive that women came forward from the competition this time. 'The election has shown the unity of women,' she said, 'Women won more than men. This was possible with everyone's support. Now we have taken it as a message that we must move forward.'
Advocate Bogati says that all the women who won as central members from Karnali are a very positive aspect when there was a perception that women should not enter politics. She said that this is a sign of change. It is a good thing for women to come to the central level of a party. She said, 'Now women have shown interest and come into politics. Now it is necessary for women to come to other parties and areas in the same way.'
Earlier, the participation of women was low, but this time the increase is welcome, said Madan Khadka, the provincial president of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He said that it is a good thing for representatives to help women move forward.
