Dissatisfaction has begun to be seen in the National Independent Party (RSP), which is said to have no group candidacy, after a list of representatives to vote from unknown numbers has started circulating.
The list provided to Kantipur by a RSP leader includes 56 names, some of whom have joined the RSP from Balendra Shah's party. Voting for the election of 99 central members of the RSP began at 12 midnight last night through electronic voting machines. The leader said that he received such a list on WhatsApp a few hours after the voting began.
Another RSP lawmaker commented that despite being told not to field group candidacies in the past, with the conclusion that the UML and Congress had deteriorated due to the same factional politics, the RSP has seen even worse practices. ‘The party should investigate what level of involvement there is in this,’ he told Kantipur, ‘This issue should not be left to chance as there is a possibility that this may have been done to defame someone.’
Candidates are also expressing dissatisfaction with the serial number of the electronic voting machine. Ganesh Karki, a candidate for the central member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has questioned how the names of those registered below him in the preliminary list came forward. ‘My name is at number 133 on the open list, on what basis was the name and place assigned in the voting machine,’ he asked.
MP Yagyamani Neupane has also said that the names of those who filled the form after him have come forward. ‘My name is at number 42 on the open list, even the alphabetical order has not been adjusted,’ he wrote on social media.
RSS Election Commission Chief Bhuwan KC, however, claimed that the data was entered by adjusting the serial number of the candidates according to the number they registered. He told Kantipur, ‘We have not done any more ups and downs.’
MP Ashika Tamang, speaking to Kantipur after voting, said that there is a system that makes it difficult to elect a leader even if she wants to. ‘Whether you like it or not, 64 people cannot go to another party,’ she said, ‘It took 5 minutes to find my own name.’ Not even a picture has been put on the voting machine. RSP leader Hari Dhakal, on the other hand, said that if they were going to put a picture, it would have taken more time.
A leader from the Balendra faction claimed that it might have been done to defame him. ‘There will be an investigation into that matter,’ he said. The voting time for the election of central members in the RSP has been fixed until 12 noon on Thursday. There is a system for electing office bearers from among the elected central members.
If the leadership is not unanimously selected, a separate vote will be held. Ravi Lamichhane has been unanimously elected as the party president.
