The first phase of the first national general convention of the National Independent Party has seen 76.67 percent of the votes cast for the central committee posts.

Outgoing spokesperson of the general convention media coordinator Manish Jha said that out of a total of 3,859 delegates, 2,959 votes were cast in the first phase.

There are 379 candidates for 99 central members. 40 were cast from abroad and 2,959 votes were cast in the electronic voting held at the general convention venue.

Earlier, the commission had informed that 4,311 delegates had been selected for the general convention. In this regard, 1,352 delegates did not participate in the voting.

The results of the voting for the central members will be made public within 3 hours, informed Ram Gurung, deputy chief of the RSVP Election Commission.

Ravi Lamichhane was elected unopposed as the president on Tuesday. Prime Minister Balendra Shah is certain to be the senior leader.

The RSVP statute gives the president the right to nominate 51 members to the central committee. Leaders who are in line to become central members and office bearers through the same process have not filed their candidacies. The number of central members and office bearers nominated by the president has been increased to accommodate the leaders.
