A writ of habeas corpus has been filed in the Supreme Court, alleging that CPN-UML Senior Vice President Bishnu Poudel, who was arrested for investigation in the crime of money laundering, has been illegally detained.

Poudel's wife Domaya filed a writ of habeas corpus in the Supreme Court on Wednesday. The first hearing of the petition was scheduled for Thursday, informed Supreme Court spokesperson Arjun Koirala.

The Special Court, Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Ministry of Home Affairs, Money Laundering Department, and District Police Office Surkhet have been named as defendants in the petition.

During the investigation into money laundering, the police had arrested Vice President Poudel on Asad 20 for investigation in connection with the share trading of Deepak Bhatta, who was detained for trial. After the Special Court granted permission to keep him in custody for an additional period, the habeas corpus petition was filed on behalf of Poudel's family.
