Some may see us as 'right-wing' in terms of encouraging the private sector, investment-friendly environment, and competition. Some may see us as 'left-wing' in terms of ensuring basic health care and education for all citizens by the state: Chairman Lamichhane

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) President Ravi Lamichhane has said that the party's core political principle will be 'social democracy'. In the political report presented at the closed session of the first general convention in Bharatpur on Tuesday, President Lamichhane said that he has come to the conclusion that it is not appropriate to adopt the constitution as a 'theme' or principle.
Lamichhane also said that critics have accused the RSSP of lacking ideas without looking at the document. 'We are not traditional 'leftists' or 'rightists' and we are not deliberately limited to that political polarization. We give priority to a practical, sensible, need-based and reality-based approach, not to any rigid ideological framework,' he said.
He also said that he will respect the historical contribution, experience and positive practices given to human society by old ideological frameworks, but will weigh them against practical utility and social justice.
'Some people may think we are 'right-wing' in encouraging the private sector, an investment-friendly environment, and competition. We may think we are 'left-wing' when the state says that basic health care and education should be ensured for all citizens. The 'left' that encouraging startups, private enterprise, and market freedom does not show us, will be shown by labor rights, minimum wages, and social security guarantees,' he said.
He also said that they believe that the state, society, and economy should be moved forward not from a single ideological framework, but from a mixed, balanced, and situation-specific perspective.
Chairman Lamichhane said in the report, 'This does not mean disapproval of the constitution.' However, the country's constitution and the party's policies, ideas, and principles are two separate issues.'
Based on the analysis of the stability and consolidation of the achievements made so far, the current economic and social situation of Nepal, and the basic character of the state that the citizens hope for, they have concluded that they will adopt 'social democracy' as the party's core political principle.
He also said that the vision of the RSVP to ensure social justice through social democracy is based on five main pillars.
