Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP) General Secretary Bhupdev Shah has said that the first national convention should send a message that the party has the capacity to lead the country for at least 20 years.
Presenting the political report at the ongoing general convention in Bharatpur on Tuesday, Shah said that the general convention should send a clear message that the party is organizationally capable and united. ‘This general convention needs to send two messages,’ he said, ‘First, the message that the RSWP is organizationally capable of leading the country and has the capacity to move the country in the right direction for at least 20 years. Second, the message that the party is united.’
He said that the RSWP should not miss this opportunity. Shah said that the two main tasks of the country are now to institutionalize the values of democracy and the constitution and to ensure the delivery of services that the citizens can directly experience by putting good governance into practice. However, he said that it should not be limited to that only, but also prioritize the economic progress of every citizen.
He said that according to the mandate given by the citizens to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the responsibility of showing results has now fallen on the shoulders of the leadership. ‘We said we need youth leadership, the citizens voted for the youth. We said we need a new alternative, they trusted the new power. We said we need a majority, they gave a majority. The citizens have fulfilled their duty, now the responsibility of showing results lies on the shoulders of the leadership,’ he said.
General Secretary Shah said that the psychology of the youth covering their faces even while participating in political activities should end. He mentioned that the situation where the youth who are in search of opportunities have to hide their identity while supporting and criticizing the movement, politics, agriculture, business or the government is not suitable for a democratic society.
He stressed that although the ideas and working styles may differ within the party, the goal should be the same. ‘Diversity is the beauty of democracy, but the strength of the organization lies in unity,’ he said.
Shah said that the purpose should be above position, ideals above ambition, and the interests of the party and the country above personal aspirations. He said that the general convention is not only a process of selecting the leadership but also a test of the party's maturity and an opportunity to establish a new political culture. "History will remember us not for how big a party we were, but for how responsible we were," he said.
