The first national convention of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSWP) has begun in Bharatpur, Chitwan on Sunday. However, the party was unable to hold conventions in 7 districts in Madhesh except Parsa.
After the convention could not be held in the province that received 57.33 percent of the votes in the proportional representation system in the elections held on 21 Falgun, the RSWP has selected representatives for the convention on the basis of an ad hoc committee.
According to the leader of the RSWP Madhesh province, Ranjit Ram, since it was not possible to hold the convention except in Parsa, representatives have arrived at the convention on the basis of the previous ad hoc committee and municipal convention. 'Representatives have been selected on the same basis from the district committee and the provincial committee,' he told Kantipur. '592 representatives have arrived from Madhesh after nominating some of the rest.'
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) won 30 out of 32 seats in Madhesh in the elections held on 21 Falgun, and leaders say that the convention could not be held due to internal disputes, tensions between those who were active in the party from the beginning and those who joined later. There was a competition between Tapeshwor Yadav and Shiva Yadav in the RSSP for the Madhesh Province President. Both of them are from Siraha. Senior leader Balendra Shah's ancestral district Mahottari, which received the most votes in proportional representation, also had a closed session due to a dispute, and the convention was postponed indefinitely.
The Dhanusha district party office of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) was locked on 22 Jestha, and RSS leader Bali Sharma even went on a hunger strike. On the same day of the district convention, RSS's Dhanusha president Laxmeshwor Yadav was suspended by the party's Central Disciplinary Commission, after which the dispute escalated. Before the general convention, President Lamichhane had discussed the problems seen in Madhesh with the MPs of the province. After the discussion, Lamichhane said that the leadership will be selected based on consensus and that now the representative will be selected from the ad hoc committee.
RSP spokesperson Manish Jha recalled that in the 2079 BS elections, the RSP Madhesh got a total of 72,000 votes, and said that the organization expansion was delayed due to the sudden increase in attraction after the elections. 'In that case, the work of expanding the organization itself has been delayed,' he told Kantipur. He said that the delay in the process of institutionalizing the party led to disputes and its impact on the general convention.
The Central Election Commission had issued a notice on Jestha 26, postponing all activities related to the Madhesh province convention until further notice.
